The History Of Shoes

Archaeology has long been an interest of mine. The history of shoes is a vast expanse of ideas and evidence. Numerous archaeologists and historians have tackled the subject and yielded a ton of information.

In A Perfect World

In a perfect world, tomorrow on my day off, I'd wear this dress and shoes combination with my newly dyed red hair curled to a lunch with my girlfriends. My best friend is in NY, I don't have any money and I don't have the shoes or the dress. I can play make believe though...

Online Store Profile - Pixie Market

Pixie Market is an actual store in New York. Of course New York has ALL the best shopping that us humble Australians have limited access to. An unusual store, perfectly curated with pieces that suit all budgets and tastes. Many of the labels are Australian including Mink Pink, Mogil and Katzi. The site features many fledgling labels which means better prices and unique finds for us!

Werner Herzog

When its late I spend my time looking up obscure things on the internet. I type 'shoes' into any and every search engine bringing up video, art, film and politics (read: Bush). Sometimes I find something interesting.

In 1980, Werner Herzog, filmmaker, grew up in remote Bavaria and viewed nor used any TV or film or telephones. At 19 he made his first film. This Youtube clip shows Herzog talking about the problems with pop culture and the lack of adequate images in 1980. Nearly 30 years on, we have the same problems. Are we really evolving?

Oh and he eats his shoe!

Favourite Models

Daria Werbowy - unique yet easy to relate to. She's the girl next door with a stellar walk.

Maria Carla Boscono - My namesake, a gorgeous Italian, bestfriend and muse to Riccardo Tiscy, the house of Givenchy. Versatile and naturally just oh so lovely.

Natalia Vodianova - the mother and wife. Meek or sexy, she nails it everytime.

Myf - An Australian newcomer. Unique, a bit quirky and the right side of cool, Myf is sure to become a household name.

I wish...

I wish I was 5'10 so I could be a catwalk model. My walk is fierce.

I wish I had long luscious hair a la Miss Cruz.

I wish I had the money to keep riding horses.

I wish I never bit my nails.

But most of all, I wish everyone was just happy. H. A. P. P. Y.

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld at home in her house. The Selby is quickly becoming my favourite website. Without having access to renovation, it helps me find ways to make my home just a little more fantastic.

Look at her shoe collection! WOW!

Black Shoes

In general, black shoes are the fail-safe easy option that most people choose to avoid making any fashion mistakes. Most often, I'd say that black is boring and though its safe, it can often make an outfit look dare I say it, a little bit dowdy.

I've stated my case about The Sartorialist's recent comments, and though I disagree about his opinion, there is no doubt, too much black can be dowdy and frumpy.

So how to tell the difference between black = sexy and black = frumpy? Easy!

Does The Sartorialist REALLY know anything?

Mr Scott Schumann please stand up. Raise your hand if you think his assessment of fashion is rife with errors. Crickets hey?

Well as a true Melburnian, I am disappointed with The Sartorialist's view of Melb v's Sydney in the style stakes. Pedestrian has offered up some of the quotes from an article with Sydney Morning Herald and the comments left on Pedestrians site are enough to make this lady laugh a whole lot.

My view? Of course Melbourne is better.

Scandinavians and shoe design

When you visit Scandinavian countries you get a sense that design just comes naturally. Of course the global powerhouse that is Ikea began in Sweden and embodies the total idea of Scandinavian design.
