10 Reasons To Be Happily Single This Holiday Season

Dear Readers,

As you may know, I'm single and quite happily too. In an effort to curb any loneliness and feeling sorry for oneself, I devised a handy list of reasons for why summer holidays are better spent sans boyfriend.

1. No need to spend an extravagant amount of hard earned cash on boyfriend. Spend on oneself instead.

2. No need to spend inordinate amounts of time with family that are not yours, a family that are even more insane than your own.

3. Summertime is a great time to flirt, everyone is generally happier and more approachable, no need to worry about the green eyed monster, you're free to do as you please!

4.You won't have to hear about his boring fishing trip with his mates, or try to wrestle the remote to turn off the cricket.

5. No cricket at all. Yippee! (Those not in Australia insert most popular sport adored by sports-mad boys).

6. It's fling time - this is the best time to have a summer romance or fling, don't worry about how long it lasts, just enjoy the passion and relaxed nature of such a relationship.

7. You can wear all your summer baby doll dresses that make you look pregnant without worrying what he will think!

8. Tuck into all the chocolates and lollies you scored and not have to share with anyone!

9. You can hit the road with mates for a beach vacation and spend the entire time drunk and/or at the beach and not worry about how he fits in or whether he wants to do something else.

10. Best of all you have plenty of time to be healthy, get fit and feel great in preparation for when that special boy comes along.

Happy Holidays!

P.S. For those who have a main man, no offence intended!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all my friends out there who celebrate it.

I had a wonderful day in Queensland with my uncle, aunty, cousin and grandma. We enjoyed prawns, turkey and vegetables and traditional Christmas pudding. Washed down with inordinate amounts of champagne, wine and beer. I fell asleep early in the evening, too much grog and food!

Gravity Rainbow

Some fun in my office! These make you feel like you're on the moooonnnnn!

A Year In Review

I've written a piece about the shoes of 2008. Check it out here.

New hair

I'll take a good picture tonight but I recently got an undercut. It's very similar to Alice Dellal's but my hair is shorter and red!

I'm kinda changing my style a bit at the moment, leaning towards a bit more grunge/punk and I am loving it. It reminds me of being a teenager. I think I'll still embrace the 'pretty' but a grunge pretty, not prissy!

The Year In Pictures

I'm going to do This Year In Shoes this week, but in the meantime, have a look at Style.com's lovely presentation about the big F, Fashion this year.

Sad news

My laptop died last night, I'm hoping it might be salvageable, but I won't know for a few days. I can blog from work, but not too much! In the meantime, look at this lovely video and pictures of amazing work by my favourite architect, Rem Koolhaas.

He is responsible for a lot of Prada's design work but he does other stuff too!

Good News!

I found an apartment, it's going to be my little heaven and once I'm set up, I'll show off some photos.

Wintertime Lusting

At this time of the year, lusting after footwear only suitable in winter should be forbidden. I just can't help it.

These Thomas Wylde boots are just too divine for words. A bit of punk, a bit of goth, a bit of high glamour and probably comfortable enough to be worn all day, these boots would be my number one item on my winter shopping list, should conditions (read: finances) permit.

I can just imagine one of rock and roll's darlings wearing these boots.

Early morning, I struggled to get out of bed this morning. I had a dream about a boy. It breaks my heart that he left and I didn't get to say what I wanted to say, didn't get to spend time with him how I wanted to.

I am currently about to move house and once again I'm in a situation where I have to move in 8 days and haven't found anything yet. Melbourne is really tiring me out lately. I hear country life beckoning.

Following on from my post yesterday about American Apparel, I found this amazing editorial by Hard Liquor, Soft Holes.

I totally agree with everything said - it's well articulated but without being too well written. Hipster is a word invented for people who try to fit into the subculture, it's not what anyone who started this scene would call themselves. Indeed adbusters paints a bleak picture of Western Civilisation by using the subculture 'hipsterdom' as a punching bag.

Without saying more, let me just say this: subcultures come and go but the rules of the world stipulate that anything good will soon be watered down by the masses.

A new subculture awaits those who cling to the term, so the true 'hipsters' can enjoy what they created.

Chrissie Morris

Back in April I mentioned a designer I thought was worth taking notice of - Chrissie Morris.

Her newest collection is striking and features my favourite type of heel, the cone. The gorgeous detail in the first pair with the ruffle tongue, the subtle snakeskin and colour combinations.

How to be an 80's queen

I was born in the 80's and sometimes I wish I'd been born just that little bit earlier so I could have reigned supreme as a teenager. In my dreams I imagine Cyndi Lauper and Madonna joined by me in my super covers band, akin to Stand and Deliver, a popular Melbourne cover band that play on Saturday nights at The Spot in Brunswick (you must go if you can, but get there early!)

So sometimes I like to channel my inner Madge and take inspiration from the amazing members of the band and do my best 80's impersonation.

(photo credits - stand and deliver)

And to do so, I absolutely need boots just like these.

Having fun with your heels

Style is all about expressing yourself and having fun, and why not? Being too serious isn't good for your health, and a bit of fun can give anyone a more positive attitude.

Take some ideas from this image and start looking for creative designs or update your own shoes yourself.

I want to hack at something. Observer Woman and Grazia magazine in the UK have named American Apparel LABEL OF THE YEAR.

I loathe AA. It's not hipster, it's androgynous and simple. It's easy to wear for those who can't think independently about style and be creative. It's for those who want to follow like sheep.

And even though I like wearing leotards, AA's leotards are poorly cut.

Taken from Adbusters.org report on hipsterdom.

"But in 2008, such things have become shameless clich├ęs of a class of individuals that seek to escape their own wealth and privilege by immersing themselves in the aesthetic of the working class."

My happy heart. I bought these on the weekend.
